I believe one of the most fundamental responsibilities of government is to ensure universal access to affordable health care for everyone. Despite conservative talking points, both you and your employer are paying far more, in terms of both premiums and deductibles, than people in countries with universal healthcare, and yet our outcomes are worse.

Connecticut needs a public option alongside efforts to curb the influence of private equity in hospitals. As your state representative, I will fight to make healthcare more affordable and accessible while strengthening the care workforce:

• Health care is a human right: We need a state public option, stronger Medicaid funding, and expanded access to affordable coverage for working families, teachers, and municipal employees.

• Strengthen long-term care: Increase Medicaid reimbursement rates so nursing home, group home, and home care workers—including PCAs—are paid fairly, on time, and with better benefits.

• Address the caregiver shortage: Raise wages and create targeted incentives to attract and retain workers as the aging population grows.

• Expand preventive care: Improve access to services like bone density scans to catch health issues earlier and reduce long-term costs.

• People over profits: Keep private equity out of our hospitals and protect health care from corporate profiteering that puts patients and communities at risk.

• Address the needs of everyone: Expand access to mental health care and substance-use treatment so every resident can get the support they need.
